Departures at Nürnberg Airport can choose from destinations such as Agadir, Catania, Fuerteventura, Hamburg, Berlin, Hurghada, Lanzarote, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Santorini, Malaga, Olbia, Samos and Split for example.
Nürnberg Airport has several different check-in areas according which airline passengers are using for their departure. Waiting areas and several comfortable lounges allow departures at Nürnberg Airport to relax prior to their flight. There’s even a hairdresser, a Lost & Found desk, and a book shop together with many other shopping facilities in the two departure halls. In total there are three interconnected terminal buildings for passengers to explore.
A taxi rank is situated just outside the terminal buildings where departures at Nürnberg Airport will be dropped off at the correct departure hall area to go straight to check-in. A trip from Nuremberg’s city centre to the airport costs around EUR 16.00 with a journey time of approximately 15 minutes. The mainline train station is located in the city centre and frequent regional and long distance trains connect Nuremberg with the surrounding towns and major cities in Germany. Several motorway connects allow easy access by car.
The metro line U-Bahn 2 links the airport with the city centre and Nürnberg Airport departures can make the journey in just 12 minutes from either the main train station or the historic city centre of Nuremberg.
The airport offers some 9,000 car parking spaces in various parking lots and car parking garages located close to the terminal buildings. Several car rental companies such as Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Sixt operate rental desks in the arrivals hall, where keys and documents should be returned to after the rental contract has come to an end.
Departures at Nürnberg Airport should use bus line service 32, which leaves at regular intervals during the day from 5.00 am and midnight, to get from the city centre to the airport, if they are looking for the cheapest way to travel to the airport.
Although at present there are no intercontinental flights offered at Nürnberg Airport, departing passengers can easily travel to Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam or Zurich, where they can board intercontinental flights. Long distance coach travel also connects Nuremberg with the neighbouring Czech Republic via an express coach that leaves the city of Prague and arrives just four hours later outside the main train station, where passengers can join the metro line trains or busses to the airport. This is an enjoyable alternative to flying, as one gets to see much of the Czech countryside en route and can enjoy some spectacular views of the historic city of Prague upon arrival and departure.
Antalya in Turkey is one of the most popular destinations for departures at Nürnberg Airport, with many older passengers travelling to Turkey to spend the winter months there. Franconia and Bavaria experience very cold winters and German pensioners enjoy the warmer climate and off-peak hotel prices that Turkey has to offer. During the summer and winter months one should therefore leave plenty of time for departures at Nürnberg Airport, as getting through the various check-in procedures and security controls can take quite some time.
