Buses to and from Nuremberg Airport (NUE)
Nürnberg Airport is well connected by air, road, rail and other public transport like city busses and long distance coaches. Germany’s extensive network of motorways allows easy access to and from many major cities and regional towns in Bavaria and beyond. The motorways A3, linked with motorway A9 as well as motorways A6 and A73 take busses to and from Nürnberg Airport on a fast and efficient route from the city.
The main bus stop at the airport is situated outside terminal 1 just outside the departure area. City busses at Nürnberg Airport are mainly provided via bus lines 32 and 33, which runs at regular intervals during the day from 5.00 and 24.00 hours, linking Nuremberg city centre with the airport. These Nürnberg Airport busses run every ten minutes covering the short distance of 5 km into the city centre.
The busses have plenty of storage for luggage and are clean, reliable and modern, just like all public transport in the country. Drivers are generally friendly and helpful. All passengers must be in possession of a valid ticket, whilst travelling on public transport and heavy fines can be imposed, if one is caught without a valid ticket.
Passengers can board long distance coaches at the main train station, as these stop right outside the main train station building, close to where bus line 32 will drop passengers off. Here express coaches to Prague in the Czech Republic can be boarded or coaches that travel to other parts of Nuremberg and the outlying villages.
Tickets can be bought from the driver on Nürnberg Airport busses, but long distance coaches and busses to Berlin for example (BerlinLinien) must be booked in advance. Such tickets can be obtained from the Reisezentrum at the main train station and online with the individual coach travel providers.
There are also a number of Bus and Fly operators, providing connecting Nürnberg Airport busses to towns and cities like Bamberg, Erlangen, Ingolstadt and even to Munich Airport. Regular shuttle busses from Nürnberg Airport take passengers to Memmingen Airport at a cost of around EUR 27.50 per person. The Munich Airport to Nuremberg service takes 1.5 hours and costs from EUR 25.00 per person. Munich is Bavaria’s busiest airport – indeed, it is Europe’s fourth busiest airport, while Nuremberg Airport is the region’s second busiest. Bus & Fly tickets can be booked via a regular travel agent and there are travel agencies within Nürnberg Airport’s terminals.
Within the city centre it is best to walk, especially in the Old Town, Nuremberg’s historic heart. There are, however, numerous municipal busses serving the rest of the city and there’s even a convenient tram that criss-crosses the city centre. Thanks to public transport being heavily subsidized in Germany, bus, tram and train tickets are very reasonable and there are discounted tickets for weekend travel and group travel.
Some cities operate City Card tickets, where tourists can purchase a City Card for 24, 48 or 72 hour intervals, which entitles them to “free” use of public transport like trams and busses as well as many discounts for tourist attractions like museums for example as well as discounted meals in branded eateries. It is always worthwhile asking for such tourist offers at the main tourist information office in the German city one travels to.
