Hamburg Airport Parking
Hamburg is a historic city and was once a Free City State only beholden to the Holy Roman Empire but no king or other ruler. Hamburg is one of the most interesting cities in Germany and boasts many tourist attractions. Like Amsterdam and Venice, Hamburg is traversed by many waterways: no fewer than three major rivers flow through the city centre, making it possible to enjoy ferry rides instead of taking the bus or underground to various destinations in the city. The River Alster, Elbe and Bille are joined by various canals and at the heart of Hamburg are the lovely Inner and Outer Alster Lakes with their giant fountains and boating in summer.
Hamburg Airport is the 5th largest airport in Germany and is situated just 5 miles / 8 km from the city centre. The airport has flight routes to many destinations across the world and handles both domestic and international flights. Two terminal buildings handle millions of passengers ever year.
Motorists using Hamburg Airport parking will have no problem with regard to finding a parking space. The airport authority provides are more than a thousand car parking spaces for long and short term parking at Hamburg Airport. In total there are five parking lots situated close to the terminals. These parking lots are numbered from P1 to P5.
Two additional parking lots are located further away from Terminals 1 and 2. These are P8 and P9 parking lots. A free shuttle bus runs between the terminals and these parking lots. The free shuttle bus operates between 3.45 am to midnight, leaving every ten minutes.
It is recommended that motorists make advance bookings for parking requirements, using the online parking space reservation system provided by the airport authority. Once motorists have made a reservation, the chosen parking space will be reserved for them even if the parking lots are fully occupied by other motorists.
Visitors who do not wish to reserve a parking space in advance via the Internet can use the intelligent parking guidance system that Hamburg Airport provides free of charge. The system guides drivers to available parking spaces at the various parking lots. As motorists drive into the short-term parking areas, the system will indicate electronically overhead where parking spaces become free.
Arriving or departing passengers with luggage can make use of the airport luggage carts; however, there is a small charge involved. Cart users must insert a 50 cent or a Euro coin into a designated slot following the given instructions. Apart from Euro coins, there are also other currencies that are permitted for usage. 10 Pound Sterling pence coins, 2 x 10 Danish Kroner, 25 US cents and 1 Swiss Franc coins are permitted for use in the carts. Passengers can also take advantage of a baggage transfer service. Passengers who need baggage transfer services should request assistance at the information desks situated in the terminals. Alternatively, passengers can use the porter request phones. The charges for the baggage transfer service depend on the amount of luggage that needs to be transported. One piece of luggage will be charged at 2.00 Euros, while 3 pieces of luggage will cost 5.00 Euros.
