Dusseldorf International Airport Departures (DUS)
Düsseldorf Airport is often referred to as the Rhein-Ruhr Airport, since it covers mainly the region that stretches between the rivers Rhein and Ruhr. As perhaps Germany’s second most important hub for business and commerce after Frankfurt, the Rhein and Ruhr region is a densely populated area with many of Germany’s most influential multi-nationals as the most important employers at its heart.
Düsseldorf Airport is the third largest airport in Germany and the 20th busiest airport in Europe. In addition, it is also the largest airport in the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Millions of people use this airport to fly to more than 170 different destinations across the globe.
In total there are three terminals, namely A, B and C. More than 70 airlines use Düsseldorf Airport as their base for domestic and international routes.
Departures at Düsseldorf Airport have a variety of transport methods open to them to reach the airport. Apart from some of the largest car rental companies in the world operating from the city centre as well as in the airport, there are also metro and underground trains, buses and taxis, which will take Düsseldorf Airport departures from locations within the city to the airport in a fairly short space of time. The city is only a 9 km distance from the airport and frequent bus and train services ensure that passengers arrive on time in an affordable manner.
Once departing passengers have reached the airport, they can either proceed straight to the check-in counters or, if they have time to spare prior to boarding, they can sample some of the snack bars or restaurants in the terminals. For last minute cash requirements there are two banks and several ATMs.
Departures at Düsseldorf Airport can also enjoy the mobile website service that provides regularly updated information on arrivals, departures, possible delays, car rental and the many facilities and amenities available at the airport. This service can be accessed by passengers via their mobile phones, via PDA, various navigation devices and passenger’s notebooks. It is an excellent way to keep abreast of latest developments and to make the most of the time at the airport.
Families with small children will find baby change tables in some of the rest rooms in all departure areas. Such rooms are signposted with the icon of a bottle.
Each terminal offers comfortable lounges for passengers to relax in before boarding their flights. At Terminal A two lounges, namely Lufthansa’s Business Lounge and Lufthansa’s Senator Lounge, cater mainly for business travellers. Terminal A is in essence Lufthansa’s base and is also used by its Star Alliance partner companies.
Terminal B offers departures at Düsseldorf Airport the British Airways Terrace Lounge, the Air France lounge and also the Hugo Junker Lounge. At Terminal C departing passengers can enjoy the facilities of the Airberlin Lounge, the Open Sky Lounge and also the Emirates Lounge.
Business travellers with a requirement for last minute conference facilities or meeting rooms can hire from a selection of conference rooms and business lounges at Düsseldorf Airport. Düsseldorf Airport departures looking for a quiet place for contemplation and religious devotion can use the facilities of the prayer hall. This hall is a non-denominational amenity for everyone’s use, while they are awaiting boarding.
It is advisable for departing passengers to check-in at least 90 minutes prior to their flight’s schedule departure time. Information for such flight times are displayed at the departures desk and on the various flight schedules stations throughout the terminals. Online passengers just need to click on their flight number and every detail will be displayed. This is also the case at the flight schedule stations, where onscreen instructions will tell passengers what they need to do to get flight information.
